GENTRIFICATION
FINAL MAJOR PROJECT

London is one of the most diverse cities in the world due to being a melting pot of many cultures and traditions. It is a city that has faced the impacts of urban gentrification and the results that come along with it such as breaking up communities through displacement.

As a result, this influenced how I could use design to explore, challenge and bring awareness to the impact gentrification has on altering the characteristics of existing communities and culture.

“WHAT IS FAMILY?”

BRANDING
UX DESIGN

This project aims to increase the ability for separated extended families who meet only for seasonal or special occasions due to physical distance to reconnect together from within their homes. ‘What is Family?’ is an app designed to break the ice through conversation starters for families to play as a way to spend quality time together. This app will help families to get to know their extended family better.

The app also questions the concept of what family means, as not every family looks the same. For some, families are seen as close friends despite not being biologically related. ‘What is Family’ is designed to deepen new and existing connections between families by spending quality time together through light conversation as a starting point.

This project is a partnership between the Dyson Creative team, and O-Innovations Limited – the 2018 UK international winners of the James Dyson Award.

Creative brief
As a team, we developed a visual identity for the O-Wind multi directional wind turbine. We also introduced the concept of O-Wind Turbines in sponsorship by a third party to. demonstrate how it could be co-branded.

The problem
Capturing wind in urban environments

There are over 11,000 traditional wind turbines in the UK which generate 25% of our electricity. With hundreds of high rise buildings in central London alone and 60% of Londoners living in apartment blocks, space is very limited. Wind is chaotic and multi-directional as a result of being trapped between buildings, dragged down to the streets, and pushed up into the sky.

The solution
O-Wind Turbine

O-Wind Turbine is a sphere with geometric vents. It sits on a fixed axis and spins when wind hits it from any direction. When wind energy turns the device, gears drive a generator which converts the power of the wind into electricity. This can either be used as a direct source of power, or it can be fed into the electricity grid.

FROM

EDITORIAL
PHOTOGRAPHY
'From' is a zine I produced on the concept of belonging and the places I’ve grown up in. The brief for this project was to create a zine that explores typography, imagery and layout whilst maintaining a consistent theme. This brief was great for experimentation and encouraged me to be more expressive with my compositions, and as a result I’ve had a piece from this body of work acknowledged by Dazed through a competition I entered.

On this page you’ll find a visual diary of photographs I’ve taken on trips away mainly in Jamaica whilst reconnecting with my heritage, alongside designs I’ve created and the zine in response to the set brief.
